9Las actividades y las vacaciones en general (activities and holidays in general):
Normalmente, paso mis vacaciones en Francia con mi familia. Vamos en verano
durante tres semanas. Cogemos el Eurostar de Londres a Paris y después el tren de
alta velocidad hasta Marsella. Nos alojamos en una casa rural cerca del mar. Hace
bueno casi todos los días y cuando hace sol vamos a la playa donde mi hermano y yo
jugamos a fútbol.

Cada ao voy a España con mis abuelos. Vamos el mes de mayo para una
semana. Cogemos el avión, el vuelo solo dura tres horas. Nos quedamos en

fiesta a la discoteca!

Hace dos años, fui a Madrid durante dos días con mis amigos españoles. Viajé en avión

Alquilamos un apartamento en el barrio de La Latina, cerca del Palacio Real. Era
pequeño pero muy cómodo. Por la noche cenamos en el apartamento y después fuimos
de fiesta a una discoteca ¡donde bailamos durante horas!
Al día siguiente visitamos el Palacio Real, el estadio Santiago Bernabeu y la catedral de

Lo pasé bomba en mis vacaciones porque estaba con mis amigas, hacía calor y me

16The preterite tense
To talk about something we did in the past in Spanish, we use the preterite tense.
To form the preterite tense, we follow two steps:
1) get rid of the –AR/ER/IR ending from the infinitive
2) Add the right ending from the following table:

However, to set the scene in the past or to describe something that USED TO happen, we
use the imperfect tense. The imperfect tense uses the following endings:

You will get a mark out of 30 for your final piece of writing, which you will complete under controlled
conditions. There are 15 marks for communication and content, 10 for knowledge and application of
language and 5 for accuracy.

Reaching for the top!
As you can see from the markscheme, the key is to show that you can use a range and variety
of language and structures – make sure your responses do not sound repetitive, beware of using
words like génial too often. Use synonyms such as amusant, merveilleux, incroyable,
intéressant, excellent or fantastique instead!
