BASES DEL XI CERTAMEN COLEGIO DEL AÑO 2021

DESCRIPCIÓN Y PRESENTACIÓN

Certamen de la Consejería de Educación en Estados Unidos, patrocinado por
la Universidad de Salamanca, Instituto Cervantes, Vista-Grupo Santillana,
Edelsa-Anaya ELE, Difusión, El Camino del Español, Tía Tula, Estudio
Sampere, Dice, Colegio Ibérico, CIAM, Fundación de la Lengua Española y
Genial.ly que premia a los mejores centros educativos (Elementary, Middle o
High School) de Estados Unidos que implementan modelos de aprendizaje
integrado de contenidos y lengua en español e inglés.

DESTINATARIOS

El certamen comprende tres categorías (Elementary, Middle y High School) y
va dirigido a centros de enseñanza de Estados Unidos, públicos, privados o
charter, cuyo objetivo sea conseguir el desarrollo de competencias bilingües
del alumnado. Es necesario que dichos centros cumplan con los requisitos
que figuran a continuación:

  Que estén implementando un programa (two-way, dual, immersion,…)
   que utilice metodología de aprendizaje integrado de contenidos y lengua
   en español e inglés.
 Que el español se utilice como lengua vehicular en dicho programa, al
   menos:
  • Un 50% en Elementary Schools.
  • Un 35% en Middle Schools.
  • Un 25% en High Schools.

Aquellos centros que impartan más de un nivel educativo deberán decidir UNA
única categoría por la que desean optar al premio.

SOLICITUDES

Los centros deben remitir a la Consejería, debidamente cumplimentada y
dentro del plazo habilitado a tal efecto, la solicitud firmada por la dirección, con
información básica del colegio y un porfolio que defienda su candidatura. La
solicitud irá acompañada de una carta de recomendación. No podrán participar
aquellos centros que hubieran sido galardonados en los últimas cuatro
convocatorias (cursos 2016-17 a 2019-20).

PRESENTACIÓN DEL PORTFOLIO

   El portfolio debe presentarse en soporte digital y ser enviado por correo
    electrónico a certamenes.usa@educacion.gob.es

   Puede incluir fotos, vídeos, ejemplos del trabajo de los alumnos y otros
    materiales que muestren el funcionamiento del programa en español de
    la escuela.

   Se recomienda revisar la rúbrica de evaluación antes de preparar la
    documentación para la presentación del portfolio.

                       SCHOOL OF THE YEAR AWARD
                                  2021

DESCRIPTION
The annual Education Office of the Embassy of Spain - School of the Year
Award is a prestigious educational recognition granted by the Education Office
of the Embassy of Spain in the United States and sponsored by the University
of Salamanca, Vista-Grupo Santillana, Edelsa-Anaya ELE, El Camino del
Español, Tía Tula and Genial.ly. This award is accorded to schools in the
United States that demonstrate excellence in content-based instruction using
both Spanish and English.

PARTICIPANTS
This three-category award for elementary, middle, and high schools is open to
public, private and charter schools in the United States that pursue the
advancement of foreign language competence in their students. Schools
interested in participating must also fulfill the following requirements:

•   Implement language programs such as two-way, dual, immersion, or
    others, that follow content-based instruction in Spanish and English.
•   Teaching periods in the Spanish language throughout the program must
    comprise at least:
    • 50% in elementary schools
    • 35% in middle schools
    • 25% in high schools

Schools, where content-based instruction is implemented at more than one
level (elementary, middle, high school), may only select ONE category to
enter the contest. For example, if you are a K-8 school that implements a dual
language program, you must decide whether to enter your school as an
elementary school or as a middle school.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Applications are to be submitted to the Education Office of Spain by the
designated deadline and will include essential information about the school, as
well as a portfolio supporting its candidature for the award. All applications must

be signed by the principal of the school. The application must also be
accompanied by a letter of recommendation. Schools that have been awarded
this recognition in the past 4 years (2016-17 through 2019-20) will
unfortunately, not be eligible to participate.

PORTFOLIO GUIDELINES

   The    portfolio must  be    submitted       in   digital   format   to
    certamenes.usa@educacion.gob.es.

   The portfolio will need to include relevant substantiation that
    demonstrates how your school implements the Spanish program in an
    effective manner. Photos, videos, and student coursework, among
    others, will be presented to support excellence in content-based
    instruction.

   Please refer to the rubric before compiling all the documentation and
    submitting your portfolio.
