    These proceedings present the written contributions of th participants of The 5th International Week
of Science, Technology and Innovation (5th IWSTI), which was held from 20 to 23 November, 2018,
at the San José de Cúcuta city, Colombia, and was organized by alianza del Sistema de Instituciones de
Educación Superior de Norte de Santander (SIES+).
    This event was aimed at the academic and scientific community and the productive sectors of the
region. The purpose of the 5th IWSTI was disseminate the advances in research and extension of
national and international institutions, through research groups and incubators, promoting the
participation of the productive sectors in research, extension, technological development and innovation
activities that strengthen the University - Company - Government relationship. Moreover, 5th IWSTI
searched the exchange of experiences with researchers from National and International fields.
    The 5th IWSTI had the participation of students, professors, businessmen and researchers from
Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Mexico, United State of America and Spain.
    During the 5th IWSTI was developed the “II Encuentro Interinstitucional de Semilleros de
Investigación de la alianza SIES+”. This meeting have the purpose of socializing research proposals and
research results, obtained from different areas of knowledge, by the Research Seedbeds of Higher
Education Institutions in Norte de Santander, SIES+.
    The editorial committee of the 5th IWSTI, we are extremely thankful to all authors and participants
for providing their valuable contributions for these proceedings as well as the reviewers for their
constructive recommendations and criticism aiding to improve the presented articles.
    All papers in these proceedings refer to one of the following topics covered in the 5th IWSTI:
Biological Physics, Medical Physics, Mathematical Physics, Chemical Physics and Physical Chemistry,
Computational Science, Electronics and devices, Instrumentation and Measurement, Educational
Communications and Environmental and Earth Science. The proceedings consist of 51 contributions
that were presented as plenary talks and poster at the conference.
    The editor hopes that those interested in these topics, can to enjoy this reading that reflects a wide
variety of current issues.
