Superintendent’s Welcome Summer 2021 Dear Families, We are looking forward to the coming school year and being fully in-person every day. As we move towards the start of school, we would like to thank you for your partnership and patience over the last 16 months. 2021-22 promises to be a positive and productive school year, and we are pleased to have you as partners in your child’s education. Our students and families have demonstrated an unprecedented level of resiliency over the past months and we understand the role that our schools play as we recover from the difficulties that the pandemic has presented. We look forward to providing safe and reliable classrooms where students can thrive. We are committed to maintaining our focus on academic instruction as well as supporting the social and emotional needs that our students are facing. As you move throughout the community, you can see that this has been another busy summer of bond work. The newly constructed Atfalati Ridge Elementary School is nearing completion and will open to students in September. School improvements have occurred throughout the district and include remodeling, seismic upgrades, and enhanced security. Additionally, several gyms have been added to elementary schools and we are in the process of constructing a resource center that will allow students to access additional pathways towards graduation. We continue to be thankful to our community for passing the capital construction bond in November 2017 that has made this work possible. As the school year starts, it is a prime opportunity for families to reinforce the importance of student engagement and the importance that routine and structure play in learning. Your encouragement and your own enthusiasm will be key factors in keeping your child motivated to do their best. Please take advantage of opportunities to connect with your child’s teacher(s) and to familiarize yourself with the instruction that is taking place. If at any time you have questions or concerns regarding academic, social, or emotional support, please reach out to their teacher, counselor, or school administration for assistance. I want to thank each of you for your continued understanding and support as we work together to create a learning environment that is safe for the students, staff and the community. July 2021 Dear Liberty Community, I hope this letter finds you enjoying the sunshine with your family and taking much needed time to rest and rejuvenate after a difficult and challenging 2020-21 school year. I want to thank you again for partnering with our school team as we navigated distance learning, hybrid learning, and the changing nature of the pandemic together. In 2021-22, all schools in the Hillsboro School District are planning to operate in person five days a week, in what should feel like a much more “normal” school year. However, the final Ready Schools, Safe Learners (RSSL) guidance from the Oregon Department of Education will likely not be released until late July, so there are some specifics - such as mask-wearing, physical distancing, daily health check expectations, etc. - that are not yet known. Therefore, I will be writing to you again in August to share more details about our back-to-school plans and provide dates and times of important activities. In the meantime, please visit the 2021-22 School Year page of the District website at www.hsd.k12.or.us/202122schoolyear often for all the latest updates. To ensure you are receiving updates directly from the District and our school, please make sure we have your current contact information. Please check your ParentVUE account to update email addresses and phone numbers, or contact our office any time after August 18th to update your mailing address. Prior to the opening of school, parents/guardians of incoming 1st-12th graders are asked to visit the MyBus page of the District website, www.hsd.k12.or.us/mybus, for information about their student’s eligibility for bus service and, if applicable, their assigned route. Dear Sophomore and Junior student families,
Welcome back to Liberty High School! We are thrilled that you will be joining us in person this fall! Here are some things to
know:
❖ We will have Falcon Flight Night on September 7th from 5-8 PM. You will be able to pick up a packet with your
class schedule, tour the school, get information about your classes, meet staff, address technology (if you have
Chromebook issues, bring it with you and trade/get it fixed this day), and check out textbooks/supplies as needed.
❖ Thursday, September 9th is your first day of school!
❖ We will be returning to a Day 1/Day 2 block schedule this fall. You will have four class periods each day.
➢ Periods 1-4 on Day 1
➢ Periods 5-8 on Day 2
➢ Advisory will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and select Fridays for Assemblies, Activities & Class Meetings
➢ Wednesdays will be late start for Academic Seminar and will otherwise follow the Day1/Day 2 schedule.
❖ It is important that you make it to your classes every day! Missing just a few days can impact your achievement.
You need to be in class to learn and we want you on track to graduate!
❖ Expect to spend time on homework each night, we will have homework help after school. It is important that you
are organized and keep track of all of your assignments and due dates with your school planner.
❖ Grades matter! You are earning credit for graduation at every semester and we want to help support you to be
on track to graduate.
❖ If you are struggling with high school, whether it is academics or socially, it is important that the Liberty staff
knows. Do not be afraid to reach out to the 10th and 11th grade teams or find a teacher that you trust. We are

Key Points for the 2021-22 School Year
We are excited to welcome students back full-time and in-person in the 2021-22 school year! Thank you
for your partnership and patience as we strive to educate our students in the safest way possible.
Here are some key points to know:
● On Tuesday and Wednesday, September 7 and 8, teachers and other school staff will make
connections with students and families and arrange for any needed supports.
● School will begin for all students on Thursday, September 9, 2021.
● The District’s operational plan for the fall, including mask requirements, will be communicated
separately after the Board Retreat on August 3.
● This operational plan as well as additional information can be found on our website at
www.hsd.k12.or.us/202122schoolyear.
● Watch for information from your child’s school on technology and internet access. Technology
assistance is available from 7:30 a.m. through 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, by calling
503-886-8956 or by submitting a request via email to techhelp@hillsboro.incidentiq.com.
● Thanks to ongoing federal coronavirus relief funding, school meals will be provided to all
students free of charge in the 2021-22 school year. Milk only may be purchased for $0.75.
Additional benefits may be available when approved for federal free or reduced-price meals
(apply at https://family.titank12.com/application/new?lang=English).
● Bus routing information will be available at www.hsd.k12.or.us/mybus as of Wednesday, August
25. Routing information for students entering grades K and 1 will be mailed directly to families.

● We will also be reaching out to families via emails, phone calls, and texts, so ensuring that we

● We love to showcase the great things our students are doing, but we also understand that there are

necessary. If you want to opt your child out of photos or other “directory information” -
which includes names, addresses and phone numbers of all 11th and 12th grade students to
military recruiters in mid-October, per federal law - please fill out a Release of Information
Opt Out Form, available from your school’s office or on our website at
www.hsd.k12.or.us/informationoptout.
● Oregon Senate Bill 856—also known as Erin’s Law—mandates that students receive
age-appropriate instruction to help them recognize and respond to unsafe situations, and to

Please be sure to follow us on instagram @lhsfalconsyearbook, and participate in our contests and polls. This year we will be reaching out to students during lunch periods and via school emails for content. We are so excited to be able to attend all school events this year and create a book of memories you can cherish for the rest of your life. Senior Yearbook Information Senior photos: Senior yearbook photo deadline is December 1st. Photo guidelines and links to submit photos are available on the LHS website. Senior photos can be professional photos or a photo taken with a cellphone (all seniors must submit photos) or student ID photo will be used for the senior photo. Mrs. McCaffrey is offering free 20 minutes senior yearbook photo sessions on Thursday and Fridays in September and October. Please see the LHS website for more information and links to schedule an appointment. Senior Messages: Parents, family and friends are able to create a senior message that will be printed in each yearbook to congratulate your graduating seniors. Messages may include pictures ( we love seeing pictures from when they were younger). A yearbook staff member will combine your message and pictures to create a one of a kind ad for your student that fits with the style and theme of the 2022 yearbook. You may have more than one message if various family and friends want to send well wishes. Senior Message submissions are due November 8th, no submissions will be accepted after as the yearbook staff needs to notify our publishing company about the number of pages needed for the yearbook that week. Please see the LHS website for details on how to order a senior message. Underclassmen Yearbook Information: Photos These photos will be taken the first weeks of school by LifeTouch, this is not run by the yearbook staff but the photos taken for student IDs will be used in the 2022 Yearbook for Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors Pre-order a 2022 yearbook Go to www.yearbookordercenter.com use code 7789 to pre-order your yearbooks. Pre-ordering will be available September 1st. Early Bird Special: Pre-order your book before 10/1 and get the book for $50. Books are $60 from 10/1until 12/31. Prices increase to $65 1/1/21. Pre-ordering your yearbook guarantees you will have a book reserved for you. Our final yearbook numbers are due January 2nd so pre-ordering now helps us know how many books to order.
