Welcome
From the Director of Music
Our music school is a fundamental and structuring part of the comprehensive
educational project that Kings College offers to
the students.
They are given the opportunity to combine regulated studies with a complete musical
training, in which the synergies created between the music department and the school
itself favour a learning climate in which students are not merely students, but part of a
community.
Musical learning has broad and recognizable benefits, regardless of the learning phase the
student is in, so in our educational offer there is no age bias, and it can
be taken from 3 years of age to 18.
The numerous musical projects that the school has always have the indispensable
collaboration of the teachers of the Music School, who prepare in coordination with the
directors of these projects, the different repertoires that the students will have to play,
thus ensuring an optimal and enthusiastic final result, in which everyone feels involved,
committed and satisfactorily represented.
The commitment to our students' own learning is a fundamental part of the educational
project offered by the Music School. For this reason we have agreements with highly
international musical institutions, registered with the Associated Board of the Royal
Schools of Music, for which a large part of the students sit the exams set by these
organizations, thus obtaining a level certification issued by them at the end of the
academic year.
Likewise, students who choose to specialize in modern music will also have the possibility
to sit for grade level exams through RockSchool. Both institutions offer the possibility of
validating musical studies through the university credit system from Grade 6 in European
and British universities, so that the effort made by students in this early phase of their
academic life has a reward in their subsequent university experience, which is, in many
cases, an extra incentive for many of them.

de la Directora de Música
Nuestra escuela de música es parte fundamental y vertebradora del
proyecto educativo integral que ofrece Kings College a sus alumnos.
Se les brinda la oportunidad de combinar estudios reglados con una completa formación
musical, en la que las sinergias creadas entre el departamento de música y la propia escuela
favorecen un clima de aprendizaje en el que los alumnos no son meramente estudiantes,
sino que forman parte de una comunidad.
El aprendizaje musical tiene amplios y reconocibles beneficios, sin importar la fase en la que
se encuentre el alumno, por lo que en nuestra oferta educativa no hay sesgo de edad, y se
puede cursar desde los 3 años hasta los 18.
Los numerosos proyectos musicales que el colegio ostenta cuentan siempre con la
indispensable colaboración de los profesores de la escuela de música, quienes en
coordinación con los directores, los preparan junto con los diferentes repertorios que los
alumnos habrán de tocar, asegurando así un resultado final, óptimo y entusiasta en el que
todos se sientan implicados, comprometidos y satisfactoriamente representados.
El compromiso con el propio aprendizaje de nuestros alumnos es parte fundamental del
proyecto educativo que ofrece la escuela de música. Por este motivo, tenemos convenios
con instituciones musicales de gran nivel internacional inscritas en el Associated Board of
the Royal Schools of Music. Gracias a ello, una gran parte de los alumnos se presentan a los
exámenes que dichas organizaciones acreditan, obteniendo así una certificación de nivel al
final del curso académico.
Del mismo modo, los alumnos que elijan especializarse en música moderna, tendrán
también la posibilidad de presentarse a exámenes de grado a través de RockSchool. Ambas
instituciones ofrecen la posibilidad de convalidar los estudios musicales a través del
sistema de créditos universitarios a partir de Grade 6 en universidades europeas y
británicas, de modo que el esfuerzo que realizan los alumnos en esta fase temprana de su
vida académica tiene una recompensa en su posterior periplo universitario, lo que supone,
en muchos casos, un aliciente extra para muchos de ellos.

Qué es King’s College Music School
At King’s College, we provide specialist musical lessons to all ages, because we
believe in the power of musical performance to compliment the social, physical and
intellectual development of our students.
Learning a musical instrument teaches our students patience, commitment and physical
coordination, performing in front of others improves their confidence and presentation
skills, the reading of notation develops literacy and numeracy, and the realisation of
different styles of music expands their cultural horizons and provides them with an
excellent opportunity to express themselves creatively.
The Music School provides lessons to students in specialist rooms outside of their
lessons, during lunchtimes, break time and after school.
En King's College brindamos clases musicales especializadas para todas las edades,
porque creemos en el poder de la interpretación musical para complementar el
desarrollo social, físico e intelectual de
nuestros alumnos.
Aprender a tocar un instrumento musical enseña a nuestros alumnos a tener más
paciencia, compromiso y coordinación física. Actuar frente a otros mejora su confianza y
habilidades de interpretación. La lectura de la notación musical, desarrolla la
alfabetización y la aritmética, y la realización de diferentes estilos de música expande sus
horizontes culturales y les proporciona una excelente oportunidad
para expresarse creativamente.
La Escuela de Música ofrece sus clases en aulas especializadas fuera de sus horas lectivas
(durante el almuerzo, los recreos y después de la jornada escolar).

Our Offer
Nuestra Oferta
EYFS y Key Stage 1: Music Initiation (Group), Shared Piano or Violin
(2 students), Group Violin (3 or more students)
We encourage students to begin their musical education from a young age, and for this
reason we are able to provide our EYFS and Key Stage 1 students with shared piano and
violin lessons, group violins lessons or Music Initiation classes.
In the shared piano and violins classes we have are taught instrumental technique and
theory from the very beginning.
In Music Initiation classes students are encouraged to move and sing to music, as well as
being introduced to some basic theory concepts and performance techniques. This is a
great option for those who enjoy music, but who are not ready to begin playing an
instrument. We recommend Music Initiation classes for EYFS students only, and we
recommend piano and violin lessons for Years 1 and 2.
EYFS y Key Stage 1: Iniciación musical (grupo), piano y violín compartido, (2
alumnos), violín en grupos (3 o más alumnos)
Alentamos a los alumnos a comenzar su educación musical desde una edad temprana, y
por esta razón podemos proporcionar a nuestros alumnos de EYFS y Key Stage 1 clases
compartidas de piano y violín, clases grupales de violín o clases de iniciación musical. En
las clases compartidas de piano y violín, se enseña técnica y teoría instrumental desde el
principio.
En las clases de iniciación musical, se anima a los alumnos a moverse y cantar al son de la
música, así como a conocer algunos conceptos básicos de teoría y técnicas de
interpretación. Esta es una excelente opción para aquellos que disfrutan de la música,
pero que no están listos para comenzar a tocar un instrumento. Recomendamos clases
de iniciación musical solo para alumnos de EYFS, y recomendamos clases de piano y
violín para Year 1 y Year 2.

Piano, Violin, Classical Guitar, Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Flute, Clarinet,
Saxophone, Voice, Drums and Music Theory
We provide specialist tuition, subject to availability, to all students in Year 3 up to Year 13.
All students have lessons with an instrumental specialist, who will provide them bespoke
objectives and outcomes to their musical studies. All students also have the option to
prepare their technique and repertoire for official examinations each year, by the
Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music or by Rockschool.

Piano
The piano is probably the most popular instrument in our school. For this reason, we
have an extensive staff of specialized teachers in jazz as well as in modern and classic
music.
As with other instruments, our students have the possibility of certifying their level
through the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music.
All our piano students, as well as those playing violin, may enjoy the possibility of
studying, through the pieces selected by our teachers, the most important musical
traditions of our history and finally being able to play baroque, classical, romantic or
contemporary music.
Piano
El piano es probablemente la especialidad con mayor demanda del colegio. Es por ello
que contamos con una extensa plantilla de profesores especializados tanto en música
clásica como en música moderna y jazz.
Nuestros alumnos cuentan con la posibilidad de certificar su nivel como ocurre con
otros instrumentos a través del Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music.
Todos nuestros alumnos de piano, así como los de violín, disfrutarán de la posibilidad
de estudiar, a través de las piezas seleccionadas por nuestro profesorado, las
tradiciones musicales más importantes de nuestra historia, siendo finalmente
capaces de tocar piezas barrocas, clásicas, románticas o música contemporánea.

Violin
Our music school has a talented staff of violin expert professors due to the
increasingly demand for this instrument.
Violin students have the possibility of certifying their level each year thanks to our
agreement with the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music. This provides
students to comfortably take their exams at our school. An option that can be
translated as an extra motivation, as well as an incentive to the student’s
commitment with the instrument. This speciality is a marvellous opportunity for
students to gain depth knowledge surrounding the different historical moments of
classical music, during the Baroque period, classical period as well as in later periods
such as Romanticism or Impressionism.
Violín
Nuestra escuela de música cuenta con una plantilla de excelentes profesores para la
especialidad en violín, ya que cada año que pasa la demanda de clases de este
instrumento es mayor.
Nuestros alumnos de violín cuentan con la posibilidad de certificar su nivel cada año
gracias al convenio que nuestro colegio mantiene con la Associated Board of Royal
Schools of Music gracias al cual los alumnos pueden realizar los exámenes
cómodamente en el propio centro. Esta opción supone para los alumnos una
motivación extra, así como un incentivo al compromiso del alumno con el
instrumento. Esta especialidad supone para los alumnos una magnífica oportunidad
de conocer en profundidad los diferentes momentos históricos de la música clásica, en
su época barroca, en su época clásica, así como épocas posteriores como el
romanticismo o el impresionismo.

Guitar
Our school offers an excellent staff with vast knowledge in both classical and modern
guitar, as well as in jazz or electric guitar. This allows students a wide range of learning
possibilities tailored to their specific needs and tastes. In addition, the possibility of
level certification is broader with this instrument, since the same certification can be
taken for both modern guitar through RockSchool, and for classical guitar with the
Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music.
It is sometimes feasible for students to begin guitar lessons in Year 2, but they will be
considered individually regarding their physical development.
Guitarra
En esta especialidad contamos con una excelente plantilla de profesores
especializados tanto en guitarra clásica como en guitarra moderna, eléctrica y jazz, lo
que permite al alumno una amplia gama de posibilidades de aprendizaje ajustada a
sus necesidades y gustos específicos. Del mismo modo, la posibilidad de certificación
de nivel se amplía para este instrumento, ya que la misma certificación se puede
cursar tanto para guitarra moderna a través de RockSchool, como para guitarra clásica
a través de la Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music.

Wind Instruments
At Kings College we offer the most popular wind instruments such as the saxophone,
the clarinet or the transverse flute. Students will also be able to learn about various
musical traditions, as classical or jazz tradition, where instruments have had a
remarkable historical development.
Wind instrument students also have the possibility of certifying their level during the
course through our school’s agreement with the Associated Board of Royal Schools of
Music.
In general, we recommend Year 4 as the ideal age to start playing wind instruments to
allow their physical development.

En Kings College ofrecemos clases de los instrumentos más populares de viento como
el saxofón, el clarinete o la flauta travesera. También podrán instruirse en diversas
tradiciones musicales, tanto clásica, así como en la tradición del jazz, donde los
instrumentos de viento han tenido un desarrollo histórico muy notable.
Los alumnos de instrumentos de viento cuentan también con la posibilidad de

Singing
This speciality that our school offers has grown exponentially in recent years, gaining
special exposure in the artistic events organized annually by the school’s music, art
and drama departments. In the last few years, the school has produced musicals such
as “Grease”, “We Will Rock You” or “Little Shop of Horrors” with increasing success.
Our choir students have the option of training both in the classical or lyrical tradition,
as well as in modern styles such as jazz, soul or pop, being able to certify their level at
the end of the course through the exams that, in coordination with such prestigious
international institutions Like Rock School, we annually organize in our centre.
Canto
Esta especialidad que nuestra escuela ofrece ha desarrollado en los últimos años un
crecimiento exponencial, cobrando especial protagonismo en los eventos artísticos
que de manera coordinada organizan anualmente los departamentos de música, arte y
drama del colegio. En los últimos años, el colegio ha producido con éxito creciente
musicales como “Grease”, “We Will Rock You” o “Little Shop of Horrors”.
Nuestros alumnos de canto tienen la opción de formarse tanto en la tradición clásica o
lírica, así como en estilos modernos como jazz, soul o pop, pudiendo certificar su nivel

Drums
One of the instruments with the highest growth in demand in recent years is the
drum. This instrument associated with more modern musical traditions has had a
progressive implantation in our study program, allowing the school’s orchestra
projects, as well as the annual musical developed by the art and drama departments, a
development towards modern repertories.
Drum students have the possibility of certifying their level throughout the course
thanks to the exams organized in agreement with the prestigious British institution of
modern music RockSchool.
Batería
La batería es uno de los instrumentos que mayor crecimiento de demanda ha tenido en
los últimos años. Al ser un instrumento asociado a tradiciones musicales más
modernas, su progresiva implantación en el programa de estudios del colegio ha
servido en buena medida para que los proyectos de orquesta del colegio, así como el
musical que anualmente se desarrolla conjuntamente con los departamentos de arte y
drama, puedan desarrollar repertorios más modernos.
Los alumnos de batería cuentan con la posibilidad de certificar su nivel a lo largo del
curso gracias a los exámenes de nivel que se organizan en convenio con la prestigiosa
institución británica de música moderna RockSchool.

Music Theory
When several students are being taught the same theory content or are preparing for
the same examination, we aim to provide the option of having group classes
for these students. Normally, this is for groups who are preparing grades with the
Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Please note that group classes
are subject to demand each year.
