FESTIVAL BETANCES JULY 17TH - 19TH - 100 W. DEDHAM ST. SOUTH END
QUERIDOS AMIGOS,

Siempre unidos,

Chief Executive Officer President of the Board

QUERIDOS AMIGOS,
Welcome to IBA’s Festival Betances 2015! Our Festival is a wonderful tradition to reaffirm
our Puerto Rican and Latino heritage and to celebrate the contributions of our community.
This year, we celebrate the beginning of a new stage at IBA. For example, earlier this year
we held the relaunch of the new image of IBA with an updated logo, new webpage,
ibaboston.org, and new brand of our programs and housing units. Also, on July 8, was the
re-inauguration of Paseo Borikén facility and programs located at 100 West Dedham
Street. We celebrated with residents, employees of IBA, Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh,
among other special guests. And because IBA does not stop, we continue to celebrate our
great achievements in this Festival Betances 2015. Through these events, we recognize that
we are all important in the development of our community. Our organization reiterates its
commitment to providing high-quality programs for the well being of all.

Festival Betances is the product of engaged staff and volunteers who make it possible. For
this reason, we want to say THANK YOU! We also want to profoundly thank all of our great
sponsors, whose support helps bring this Festival to you and your family. We hope this
festival like the others are a motive to celebrate with friends and family, and things that
unite us ... art, culture and the commitment to strengthen our community.

Let’s celebrate a New Future through Community Power. Let’s Build It!

Always together,

Vanessa Calderón-Rosado, Ph.D.

In 1968, the residents of Parcel 19 in the South End organized, and
with the support of hundreds of protesters, they fought to stop the
displacement they were facing. They finally won this battle, which
gave them the right to control and develop their community by
 HOW WE founding IBA.

STARTED? IBA then developed Villa Victoria (Victory Village), a 435
unit affordable housing community in the city’s South End
neighborhood, and it immediately became a model of civil rights, community
development, affordable housing and arts programs. It is a daily reminder of what it can be
achieved with effort, determination and social awareness; the legacy of those brave Puerto
Rican activists has been recognized for over
four decades and continues to be referenced
and studied by communities and scholars. Over
the year, IBA has developed more affordable
housing with a total of 521 units.
