Parent Handbook 2019
Becoming the Best
Dear Passaic Community,
This school year brings many positive changes as we move toward becoming the best urban
school system in the state of New Jersey. It is clear that we are on our way to achieving this goal!
Our PARCC scores show an increase in percent of students meeting and exceeding
expectations. Our four-year graduation rates have increased. Our high school Advanced
Placement (AP) Course enrollment is up, as is the number of students taking AP exams. The
number of students enrolled in college dual credit courses has also seen a significant increase.
We are a district on the rise!
This past year we debuted Passaic Pathways, which offer choice to our school community.
We opened up two new academies which welcomed over 1400 students this September
2018. We realigned our district to create k-8 neighborhood schools which offer stronger social,
emotional, and psychological support structures. We expanded the Advancement Via Individual
Determination (AVID) program in grades 7 through 12 in order to support more students as
they graduate high school with a college transcript. Additionally, new offerings at Passaic High
School (PHS) will provide students in grades 9-12 clear college and career pathways that will
enable them to graduate with 15 college credits, a career certification, or both.
Our Passaic Board of Education and dedicated faculty are on a clear path to excellence in this
2018-2019 school year!
Sincerely,
Pablo Muñoz
