How to collage a self portrait - Arlington Public Library

How to collage a self portrait
Sketch a self-portrait on the drawing paper. You can
use a mirror or just use your imagination. This will help
you know where to glue your paper pieces later on.
Remember to study your features. Pay close attention to
the different shapes of shadows and highlights on your
face.

Once your sketch is complete, begin paging through the
provided paper to find colors and textures that you’ll
collage on top of your self-portrait drawing. Start cutting
the paper pages into geometric shapes. The shapes will
be based on the different shapes you notice that make
up your face. Cut some ovals for eyes. Cut some half
circles for ears. Cut out the shape of a mouth and nose.
What does your hair look like? Be inventive.

Glue down the shapes of paper. Your glue is glittery,
which you can use to highlight pieces of your portrait if
you'd like. Continue to layer paper shapes to create your
face. You can add marker lines to make your features
pop. You can glue down additional paper scraps to the
background. This is your artwork, and it is complete
when you think it is. Have fun with it.

    Cómo hacer un collage
     de un autorretrato
Dibuja un autorretrato en el papel . Puedes usar un
espejo o simplemente usar tu imaginación. Esto te
ayudará a saber dónde pegar los trozos de papel más
adelante. Preste mucha atención a las diferentes formas
de sombras y reflejos en su rostro.

Una vez que haya completado su boceto, comience a
hojear el papel provisto para encontrar colores y texturas
que colocará en la parte superior de su dibujo de
autorretrato. Comience a cortar las páginas de papel en
formas . Las formas se basarán en las diferentes formas
que notes que componen tu rostro. Corta algunos

  Mary Edmonia Lewis was a Native American and Black
    sculptor who began her career by creating pieces
      depicting abolitionists. Despite facing constant
   discrimination, she became one of the world’s most
famous sculptors, ultimately settling in Rome. She was the
   first African-American sculptor to gain international
                        recognition.

  Anna was the first Chinese American star in Hollywood.
  Studios refused to cast her in leading roles of romantic
films because at the time, a censorship law prevented her
from being affectionate with a white actor on screen. She
  spoke out against racist censorship and worked hard to
                     gain starring roles.

  Zitkala-Sa was a Native American who wrote down oral
traditions and experiences from her Yankton Dakota Sioux
   culture. She fought for Native American and women’s
  rights as a political activist by co-founding the National
  Council of American Indians and wrote the lyrics for the
                 first American Indian opera.

nativa americana que comenzó su carrera creando piezas
que representaban abolicionistas. A pesar de enfrentarse
a una discriminación constante, se convirtió en una de las
escultoras más famosas del mundo y finalmente se
estableció en Roma. Fue la primera escultora
afroamericana en obtener reconocimiento internacional.

Anna fue la primera estrella chino-estadounidense en
Hollywood. Los estudios se negaron a contratarla para
papeles protagónicos en películas románticas porque en
ese momento una ley de censura le impedía ser cariñosa
con un actor blanco en la pantalla. Ella habló en contra de
la censura racista y trabajó duro para conseguir papeles
protagónicos.

Zitkala-Sa era una nativa americana que escribió
tradiciones orales y experiencias de su cultura Yankton
Dakota Sioux. Luchó por los derechos de las mujeres y los
nativos americanos como activista política al cofundar el
Consejo Nacional de Indios Americanos y escribió la letra
de la primera ópera indígena americana.
