Greetings, 4-H Families! This booklet is a gift from 4-H
to you and your friends. In this booklet you will find activities to
entertain the whole family. We encourage you to engage your
children in these fun and educational recreational activities.
We hope this will help our communities grow to be healthy and
happy. On the back page you can find our contact information.

Farm Animal Poetry
Duration: 20-40 minutes Participants: 1+
Materials Needed:
• Farm Animal Books
or Computer for
Research
• Pencil/Pen
• Paper
Instructions:
In this activity you will write a poem about afarm animal and its
stages of growth and importance to you.
• Choose a farm animal you would like to write about.
• Do your research, use your computer, books you have at
home or the local library.
• Brainstorm a list of words that relate to your animal. Think
about how the animal looks when it is a baby to when it is
full grown. How does the animal smell, see, hear and what
is it’s job?
• Choose a format for your poem. You can use a Haiku,
Acrostic poem or a cinquain.
• When your poem is finished draw a picture of your animal.
Question for kids: Why did you choose the type of poem you did?

Paper Flower Craft
Duration: 10+ minutes Participants: 1+
Materials Needed:
• Scissors
• Paper in a variety of
colors or white paper
and markers
• Glue stick
• Straws
• Clear tape
Note: If you are using white paper and markers, color the paper
the colors you would like before cutting out individual strips
Instructions:
• Cut out a medium sized circle. The circle will be the center of
the flower.
• Begin cutting out strips of paper. Try different widths and
lengths of strips to find the perfect fit.Create loops to see
what size petals you are creating
• Once you have paper strips, glue together two ends to create
a teardrop shape.
• Take your circle and glue the loops on one side, with the
rounded edge facing outward. Continue until you create your
flower!
• Once your flower is complete, glue on the straw to the back
of the flower to create a stem. Secure with clear tape.
• Make multiple flowers to create a flower bouquet!
Question for the kids: How do people feel when they receive flowers?

• A small over proof
bowl
• Acrylic Paint
• Mod Podge
• Butter Knife
• Rolling Pin
Salt Dough:
• 2 cups flour
• 1 cup salt
• 1 cup water
Instructions:
• Mix the salt dough ingredients.
• Flatten the dough using a rolling pin (1cm thick) and press
the child’s hand onto it to create an imprint.
• Using a butter knife, carefully cut around the edges of the
handprint.
• Place the bowl onto a baking tray and shape the hand.
• Bake the handprint in the oven for about 2 hours at 250
degrees F until hard.
• Finally, paint and seal the handprint with the mod podge.

Directions:
• Mix all ingredients together
in a bowl. Flavors will
blend if refrigerated for 30
minutes or more before
serving.
• Refrigerate leftovers within
2 hours.
