I am offering all of you in my prayers for your good health and safety during the pandemic, COVID 19 continues to devour the lives of thousands daily. May the intercession of Mother Mary during the month of May keep all of us safe under her powerful mantle. On this Fifth Sunday of Easter we celebrate Mother’s Day as well. We read from the Gospel today from the Gospel of John chapter 14: “Do not let your hearts be troubled . . . where I am going, you know the way.” As we experience the fear, fatigue and frustra- tions of the pandemic these words of Jesus console us and give us hope. Let us trust in the providence and protection of the risen Lord. Apostle Thomas asked Jesus: “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus Replied: “I am the way and the truth and the life. If we know Jesus is our way, we will not get lost in our faith journey. If we are convinced that Jesus is the truth, we will not me misguided. If we believe that Jesus is the life, we will not be afraid even to die. When Jesus mentioned the Father, Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” This statement of Philip should be our proclama- tion as well. While we are searching for so many things in the world let us be satisfied with the vision of the face of our Loving Father in heaven. When we meditate upon mothers during this Mother’s Day weekend, the first mother that comes to our mind is Mother Mary. She stands out as a perfect model for all mothers and believers. Her appearance in Tepeyac, México to Juan Diego, in Fatima to Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco, in Lourdes to Bernadette, etc. shows us how caring and loving mother she is. Mother Mary was with Jesus from the beginning till the end. In Bethlehem she gave birth to Jesus and kissed him with love. At the temple when Jesus was found she questioned him courageously. During the wedding at Cana she asked him to begin his messianic job joyfully or hopefully. Mother Mary walked with Jesus to Calvary and place the corpse of her only son in her lap sorrowfully. She never got too stressful even when she went through such agony. Mother Mary knew Christ so intimately, she followed him so faithfully and kept her joy and sorrow in her heart surrendering her will to the will of God. As we meditate upon Mother Mary, especially during the month of May let us ask her intercession on us and all mothers to move forward courageously and hopefully trusting in God’s providence. Queridos amigos, una vez más saludos de oración de Kerala, India. Han pasado más de dos meses desde que
dejé Nueva York. Os ofrezco a todos en mis oraciones por vuestra buena salud y seguridad durante la
pandemia, COVID 19 sigue devorando la vida de miles de personas a diario. Que la intercesión de la Madre
María durante el mes de mayo nos mantenga a todos a salvo bajo su poderoso manto. En este quinto domingo
de Pascua celebramos también el Día de la Madre.
Hoy leemos del Evangelio del Evangelio de Juan, capítulo 14: "No dejéis que vuestros corazones estén
afligidos... adonde voy, ya sabes el camino. A medida que experimentamos el miedo, la fatiga y las frustracio-
nes de la pandemia, estas palabras de Jesús nos consuelan y nos dan esperanza. Confiemos en la providencia y
en la protección del Señor resucitado.
El apóstol Tomás le preguntó a Jesús: "Maestro, no sabemos a dónde vas; ¿cómo podemos saber el camino?"
Jesús respondió: "Yo soy el camino, la verdad y la vida. Si sabemos que Jesús es nuestro camino, no nos
perderemos en nuestro camino de fe. Si estamos convencidos de que Jesús es la verdad, no me equivocare-
mos. Si creemos que Jesús es la vida, no tendremos miedo ni siquiera de morir. Cuando Jesús mencionó al
Padre, Felipe le dijo: "Maestro, muéstranos el Padre, y eso será suficiente para nosotros." Esta declaración de
Felipe también debe ser nuestra proclamación. Mientras buscamos tantas cosas en el mundo, estemos
satisfechos con la visión del rostro de nuestro Padre Amado en los cielos.
Cuando meditamos sobre las madres durante este fin de semana del Día de la Madre, la primera madre que
viene a nuestra mente es la Madre María. Se destaca como un modelo perfecto para todas las madres y
creyentes. Su aparición en Tepeyac, México a Juan Diego, en Fátima a Lucía, Jacinta y Francisco, en Lourdes
a Bernadette, etc. nos muestra lo cariñosa y cariñosa madre que es.
La Madre María estuvo con Jesús desde el principio hasta el final. En Belén dio a luz a Jesús y lo besó con
amor. En el templo, cuando Jesús fue encontrado, ella lo cuestionó con valentía. Durante la boda en Cana le
pidió que comenzara su trabajo mesiánico con alegría o esperanza. La Madre María caminó con Jesús al
Calvario y puso el cadáver de su único hijo en su regazo con tristeza. Nunca se puso muy estresante incluso
cuando pasó por tanta agonía.
Madre María conoció a Cristo tan íntimamente, que lo siguió tan fielmente y guardó su alegría y su dolor en
su corazón entregando su voluntad a la voluntad de Dios. Al meditar sobre la Madre María, especialmente du-
rante el mes de mayo, pidamos su intercesión sobre nosotros y todas las madres que avancen con valentía y
esperemos confiar en la providencia de Dios.
