Next weekend, February 4 & 5 is the kick off of the Archdiocesan Catholic Stewardship Appeal for 2020 in all of our
parishes. Our goal set by the Archdiocese for this year is $27,000. Last year we collected $10,228. This year we would like to raise
$15,000. Will you help us?
Your gift combined with all of the gifts to the Catholic Stewardship Appeal are making a
difference in our parish and our community.
The funds raised are used for priest formation, diaconate and lay formation, religious education leader training, support of senior priests,
marriage and family ministry, evangelization and outreach, training for lay ministers in our church, and support of our schools. The restricted
purposes are identified specifically on the Appeal Web page, www.catholicappeal.org.
There was a mailing sent out last week to all of our families from the Archdiocese, asking us for our support. Please bring your envelope
to church next weekend or send it to the Archdiocese directly. Thank you for supporting the Appeal and for giving generously.
Please make checks payable to the Catholic Stewardship Appeal. For more information about the Appeal, or to give online, visit
www.catholicappeal.org. Didn’t receive an envelope, but would still like to give? A second collection is planned for all masses on Feb. 8 and 9.

4Emergency Readiness
Many of you have a plan in place at your homes on what to do in case of an emergency. We are reviewing our plan in case we
have an emergency here at the parish. Soon you will start to see new signage as to where to go if there is an emergency. Our
staff and key volunteers are being trained (some retrained) in CPR and first aid. We are working closely with the school on com-
munication and evacuation procedures—just in case.

It is important for us as your community to pray for you or make a pastoral visit if you are ill. Please, if you
are admitted to a hospital or nursing home, have your family or friend call the Rectory. The Federal Privacy
Regulation, HIPPA-Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act prohibit hospitals and nursing homes
from informing Churches of a patients presence unless the patient requests and gives them permission.
If you ask someone on the medical staff to call us it can take several days for them to notify us! We care
very deeply about you and want to provide spiritual support or prayers for you!

We know that all students perform better without the distraction or fear of hunger. Believe it or not, every day at SJCA, there
are children who come to school hungry. Some have not eaten breakfast and others consistently neither pack a lunch, nor
have the funds to purchase food from our hot lunch program. Our classroom teachers often provide morning snacks to en-
sure their students are ready to learn, but we want to make sure that all students who seek a nutritious lunch will be able to
receive one. SJCA currently has an angel fund that helps pays for the lunches of needy students, however the need contin-
ues to grow.
The St. Mark Human Concerns Committee has graciously named the SJCA Angel Lunch Fund as its cause for the month of
January. Please give generously to this fund and help feed our school children, both physically and spiritually. Your donation
will not only fill our school children’s stomachs, but will also fill their hearts, as they experience the compassion and kind-
ness of our parish community.
