2019-2020 PUENTE Charter School Enrollment
Pre-lottery Enrollment Priorities
Thank you for selecting PUENTE Charter School for your child’s educational journey! The
2019-2020 registration period begins in November and we want to make the enrollment
process as easy as we can for you. Your child has enrollment priority because s/he is
attending PUENTE Charter School, allowing your child to continue with us in an
uninterrupted manner. Additionally, LAUSD allows for siblings of your child the same
priority enrollment status to ensure that families are kept together at the same school.
However, as a public charter school, we are also required to conduct a lottery to invite
additional students if our current families do not register now. Please submit your
application as soon as you receive it to avoid the lottery process.
FIRST STEP the application will be sent home with your child in November.
STEP TWO prepare to have all phone numbers and updated immunization
records ready.
STEP THREE complete and submit the Charter School Application for the 2019-
2020 to Graciela Ramos in the Charter School Office.

mansions that were built in the 18th Century. This is a perfect
trick-or-treating neighborhood for children! Families will
delight to see the beautifully decorated Victorian style
mansions on this street. Be sure to visit nearby Douglas
Street and Kendall Street that also showcase beautiful
Victorian and craftsman style architecture.

Free Scary Face Pancakes on Halloween! Stop by your local IHOP
restaurant on Wednesday October 31 from 7 am to 10 pm to receive a
free Scary Face Pancake at participating restaurants! Children ages 12
and under will receive a free pancake (limit 1 per child). No coupon or
purchase is necessary and it is for dine in only.

“Dia de los Muertos” or Day of the Dead is the Mexican celebration
of All Souls Day with a history that goes back to indigenous roots.
Traditions include caring for the graves of family members, building
elaborate altars to loved ones who have passed on and respectful
celebrations of the dead with processions, dances and music.

Helping Your Child
Homework Tips
Research shows that children are more likely to succeed in learning
when their families actively support them. One important way that
families can lend this support is by taking an interest in the homework that
children bring home and by finding the most effective ways to help them
with their homework. Before discussing ways that you can help your child
with homework, it is important to discuss why teachers assign homework
and how it benefits your child.
Why do teachers assign homework? Teachers assign homework for many reasons.
Homework can help children review and practice what they've covered in class, get ready for the
next day's class, and explore subjects more fully than classroom time permits. Homework also
can help students to develop good study habits and positive attitudes. It can teach children to
work independently and encourage self-discipline and responsibility.
Homework can help create greater understanding between families and teachers and provide
opportunities for increased communication. Monitoring homework keeps families informed about
what their children are learning. Children in kindergarten can benefit from 20 minutes of
homework each school day.
