June 2019 Vol. XXVI, No.10 from the Parochial Vicar. . . LIFE FULL OF ENCOUNTERS How can I describe, or what word can I use to express what I have lived in these three years in the United States, in the Father Vitner Diocese of Lexington, particularly in the parish of Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary? The word that could embrace my experience would be: "ENCOUNTER". In Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary (the school for new priests), I have lived many moments of "encounters" with myself and God in the retreats of ACTS, "cursillo", in my prayers and contemplations before the Blessed Sacrament. I also had encounters with the American culture in my process of inculturation, which is different from my Bolivian culture or African culture where I did my ministerial service as a missionary priest. I had encounters with "many faces of God" in the Anglo, Hispanic, Filipino, Indian, Congolese, Vietnamese people. During these three years I have enjoyed my priestly ministry celebrating the sacraments. I also had encounters of dialogue with people in hospitals, in homes, in some favorite restaurants, around meals with great friends. Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary is for me my "mother house". I give many thanks to all of you who welcomed me and made me part of your family. In the same way I want to publicly thank Father Dan, a good mentor, for his patience, for his care and for wanting me to be a good priest, a good Christian and a merciful person. I also thank the staff of the parish for listening to me, for teaching me, for making me part of this parish family. I would like to thank each and every one of you with whom I met; for your prayers, for feeding me, for giving me lifts, for your care, for your support, for making me part of your family, for opening the doors of your home, for inviting me to family events of marriage, celebration of the sacraments, birthdays, graduation. Mary Queen is my family where I had an encounter with God in the church, in its liturgy and the people. It has been a blessing that God has given me. Wait!, Hold on!, I am not going far away. I will be close, in London, Kentucky. Pray for me, for my new encounter that awaits.

PreK- B Field Day was May 14th and it was filled with fun activities that took place inside and outside of our school. Mrs. Negron’s class favorite activity to do was the obstacle course!! School News From the Principal . . . There is much joy and sadness that surround the end of the school year. I don’t think there is a teacher or a student that is not basking in the joy of summer break! There is also the joy of Graduation, this year we graduated 42 outstanding ladies and gentleman that are well prepared to move on to high school. The end of the year also brings some sadness, as we have to say good-bye to a few important people in our life. We have been blessed with the love, joy, stories and care of Mr. Reilly who has taught at Mary Queen for 10 years. Although it is not truly good- bye (as he plans to sub for us from time to time) we do wish him happy trails on his new adventures. We wish the kindness and joy of this school year for all our friends who are moving away and have other obstacles that will keep them from returning this next school year, we wish them the best. There is still a lot of work to be done to be ready for the new school year. Don’t forget to make your doctor appointments, get your immunizations, find the perfect folder and pencil for the PreK-C new year, take a vacation – or two – but also don’t forget to go PKC sported Derby hats in anticipation of the 145th Kentucky to Mass! We don’t get a summer break from God. Derby! A reminder that our open enrollment for the 2019-2020 school May Crowning was a beautiful day as Rose Williams prepares to year is going on now! PreK-D KINDERGARTEN This past year we have laughed, played, learned and enriched Kindergarten classes had an awesome time celebrating their last our lives academically, socially and emotionally. We finished 10 days of school. They celebrated by popping a balloon each of out the year with a fun day in the sun, we read again some of our the last 10 days of school. Inside each balloon there was a fun favorite books, and we enjoyed listening to our guest readers. activity for the day. The grand finale was an inflatable day! We had a terrific year. Parents of kindergartners were invited to come picnic outside for Happy Summer lunch also. Families had a great time celebrating the competition of their child's first year in "big school"! FIRST GRADE May was a busy month for First Grade. They sang a 'Thank You' song for school volunteers at Mass. Our school is made better by our special volunteers. They had an exciting Field Day where they got to participate in many outdoor activities and relays. They also performed two plays, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and PreK-E The Cheese, and picnicked with parents to conclude a wonderful In PreK-E, our favorite part of May was field day! We did school year. bubbles, bikes, water sponge toss, sensory tables, obstacle course, and parachute games. We even enjoyed a picnic outside. To top it off, we had perfect weather! SECOND GRADE Second grade finished the school year in the best way possible as students received the sacrament of First Holy Communion! Students were eager to experience Jesus' love in a new way and share that love with others!
THIRD GRADE Third grade is passionate in learning about the culture of other countries. We celebrate God's people and diversity by having a Culture Festival. Students research about their chosen country, create a presentation and bring in traditional foods and drinks to share with their classmates at the festival. Third graders and their teachers absolutely love this project!! FIFTH GRADE The 5th grade has had a wonderful year full of learning, faith, and laughter. I want to thank everyone for all of their love and support throughout the year. I hope everyone has an awesome summer and can find time to rest, relax and enjoy your families. Can't wait to see everyone next year. God Bless! MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE NOTES SIXTH GRADE Sixth grade wrapped up the year with lots of hands-on challenges and investigations. Here are just a few shots of our youngest Scientists! FOURTH GRADE Saint of the Month All of us are called to be saints to the people we encounter in this world. Our canonized saints are heavenly role models of who we are called to be here on earth. They show us how to live our lives in a way that God desires, and how to live out our call to sainthood. During the 2018-2019 school year, Mrs. Jackson’s fourth grade class learned about a different saint every month. At the beginning of each month, the class “met” a new saint, learned a little about that saint’s life, and listened to a quote from that saint. It was amazing how many times throughout the school year a student would reference a particular saint’s story or quote in classroom conversation! At the end of each month, students were asked to reflect upon the quote of the month, thinking particularly about how he or she could apply the quote to their “real life”. In the last week of school, students compiled all the reflections and coloring sheets from the school year into a “Saint of the Month” book. Hopefully the stories and quotes of these saints will help guide the students in the years to come.
SEVENTH GRADE 7th grade students enjoyed engineering awesome foam roller coaster models in the lab!
