Dear Parishioners,
On the SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, Mark, once again, presents a healing story—the
curing of the leper. Many of us can relate to the episode as whenever, wherever, there’s
outbreak and/or exposure in the local community, we lockdown. Lepers are quarantined for life.
They are the social outcast. In the scenario, a leper came to Jesus, knees bent and begged him,
“If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched
him and said, “I do will it. Be made clean.” Then, the leprosy left him immediately. Let us thank
the present-day martyrs of charity (the front-liners) for carrying out the task many of us try to
avoid.
On FEBRUARY 17, ASH WEDNESDAY, we will observe the 40—day season of the Lent. We have
gone into Lent before, but if you have been forced into quarantine due to exposure, you know
what it means, to be in isolation, as the French word for Lent ‘careme’ means Quarantine. That
said, Quarantine is a time of deep reflection, self-examination, introspection, and interior
disposition, which is exactly what we do during these 40 days of penance, because all of us
without exception tested positive for sin. During Lent, we physical, socially, and spiritually
distance ourselves from the influence of Satan; to avoid exposure to the deadly invisible disease
called “sin.” As we regularly wash and sanitize our hands, so do we also cleanse our hearts,
consciences and inner lives. Our theme this year is LENT FOR PEACE through PRAYER, FASTING
AND ALMSGIVING, an act of devotion. Lent is like going to boot camp or spring training, where
we don’t have much choice but to trust the proven spiritual and religious practices. Please be
informed that Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM will start on February 17, Ash Wednesday. Packets are
available for pick-up. Sunday Mass is central in Catechism. Prayer and study are essential
ingredients. I thank the Catechists for all their love and care in the faith formation of the
children and the young people. The Spiritual and religious foundation is so important in their
formative years. Faith experience will be their guide.

Estimados feligreses,
EN El SEXTO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO, Marcos, una vez más, presenta una historia
de curación, la curación del leproso. Muchos de nosotros podemos relacionarnos con este
episodio, pues dondequiera que haya un brote y / o una exposición al virus en la comunidad
local, cerramos. Los leprosos son puestos en cuarentena de por vida. Son los marginados
sociales. En esta escena, un leproso se acercó a Jesús de rodillas y le suplicó: "Si quieres, puedes
limpiarme". Conmovido por la pena, extendió la mano, lo tocó y dijo: “Lo haré. Queda limpio”.
Entonces, la lepra lo dejó de inmediato. Agradezcamos a los mártires de la caridad de hoy (los
trabajadores en la línea al frente) por llevar a cabo la tarea que muchos de nosotros intentamos
evitar.
El 17 DE FEBRERO, MIERCOLES DE CENIZA, observaremos el tiempo de Cuaresma por 40 días. Ya
hemos estado en cuarentena antes, pero si te han obligado a estar en cuarentena debido a la
exposición del virus, sabes lo que significa estar aislado, ya que la palabra francesa para la
Cuaresma "careme" significa cuarentena. Dicho esto, la cuarentena es un tiempo de reflexión
profunda, autoexamen, introspección y disposición interior, que es exactamente lo que hacemos
en estos 40 días de penitencia porque todos sin excepción damos positivo al pecado. Durante la
Cuaresma, nos distanciamos física, social y espiritualmente de la influencia de Satanás para
evitar la exposición a la enfermedad mortal e invisible llamada pecado. Así como nos lavamos y
desinfectamos nuestras manos con regularidad, también limpiamos nuestro corazón, nuestra
conciencia y nuestra vida interior. Nuestro tema de este año es CUARESMA PARA LA PAZ a través
de la ORACIÓN, EL AYUNO Y LA CARIDAD, un acto de devoción. La Cuaresma es como ir a un
campo de entrenamiento o entrenamiento de primavera donde no tenemos más remedio que
confiar en las prácticas espirituales y religiosas probadas. Tenga en cuenta que el Miércoles de
Ceniza es un día de ayuno y abstinencia.
EL PROGRAMA DE EDUCACIÓN RELIGIOSA comenzará el 17 de febrero, miércoles de ceniza. Los
paquetes están disponibles para recoger. La Misa dominical es central en el catecismo. La
oración y el estudio son ingredientes esenciales. Agradezco a los catequistas todo el amor y
cuidado en la formación en la fe de los niños y jóvenes. La base espiritual y religiosa es tan
importante en los años formativos. La experiencia de fe será su guía.

INSTRUCTIONS:
After blessing the ashes and sprinkling them with holy water in silence, the priest addresses
the people, reciting the formula found in the Roman Missal only once:
“Repent, and believe in the Gospel”
or
“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
After the blessing of the ashes, the priest “cleanses his hands, puts on a face mask, and
distributes ashes, by sprinkling them on each person’s head, without saying anything.”

• Call your parish office to register for online pre-baptism class, in
English or Spanish. Once class is completed, verified, and the
paperwork is complete, a date for Baptism will be given.
• CHANGE: Baptism will be administered at St. Luke on the 2nd
Wednesday of each month in English & the 4th Wednesday of each
month in Spanish.
• No more than 20 people allowed in Church to witness the
Baptism.
• Masks required for duration of time in Church; Hand sanitizer

L E N T—C U A R E S M A
Lent is a six week period, beginning on Ash Wednesday, meant to be a time of
repentance. It is a season of preparation for commemorating the death and
resurrection of Jesus at Easter. The purpose of Lent is to fully recognize our
brokenness as humans and the need for a Savior. The time period of Lent allows for
us to reflect and open our hearts to Jesus. The main observation of Lent, fasting, is
done so in order to clear distractions and focus on Christ. The other two aspects of
Lent are prayer and almsgiving. The act of giving up something and replacing it with
prayer and worship, gives way to a deeper relationship with God.
R.C.I.A. (Rite for the Christian Initiation of Adults)
program was originally designed for unbaptized adults (without religious affiliation/
background) seeking to become Catholics. However, it's also widely open to
baptized Christians converting to Catholicism and baptized Catholics who have yet to
complete the Sacraments of Initiation (First Communion and/or Confirmation).
FOR ADULTS COMPLETING THE SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION
(FIRST COMMUNION AND CONFIRMATION):

The second “Journey into Faith” class: Jan. 18, 2021—Mar. 29, 2021,

if you are in need of a tax donation letter
to support your contributions, please call your parish office to request a letter.
When you call, kindly advise the ladies of your choice to either pick up
your letter, which will be placed in the mailbox, or have your letter mailed to you.
We are navigating through the COVID-19 surge in new cases, and adhering to new protocol
from the Diocese of Tucson, so we hope you

IN MEMORIAM:
Our heartfelt condolences to families of who have lost
loved ones from COVID-19.
Nuestra más sentida condolencia a las familias de
quienes han perdido a sus seres queridos de COVID-19.The Immaculate Conception/St. Luke Conference of St. Vincent de Paul continues to thank everyone who continues
to support us. We were blessed in December to receive Christmas dinners from the Sabino Canyon and Catalina
Highway Safeway stores in Tucson. On December 22, we provided turkey, ham or prime rib dinners to 145 families.
We were also able to give meals to Hope of Hope, Cypress Inn and Haven Health, totally over 1,100 meals served.
During 2020, we provided assistance to 6,449 Friends through $36,847 in financial assistance; 3,119 meals; food for
2,892; clothing for 261; furniture for 25 families, and household goods for 72 families. Receiving gently used
furniture, clothing and household goods in our store provides a way for us to fund our Special Works Programs.
We are grateful for the items we receive in our store.
We especially want to thank Gail Zamar, Veronica Abrigo and Alison Vigil who are currently providing lunches on
Mondays and Fridays. Their dedication to feeding those who have limited food resources is a blessing to the
Society.
We continue to rely of the generosity of all who support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul as we serve the most
vulnerable in our community. If you would like to become a member or volunteer of the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul please stop by 543 G Avenue or call 364-7573.
Don’t forget our store is open Monday – Saturday 10am to 3pm.

La conferencia de San Vicente de Paul, Inmaculada Concepción / San Lucas, continua agradeciendo a quienes
generosamente los apoyan. Fuimos muy bendecidos en Diciembre al recibir las comidas de Navidad de parte de
Sabino Canyon Highways y las tiendas Safeway de Tucson. En Diciembre 22, donamos comidas de pavo, jamón y
carne a 145 familias. También pudimos dar comidas a House of Hope, Cypress Inn y Haven Health por un total de
1,100 comidas.
Durante el ano 2020, pudimos proveer asistencia a 6,649 personas por un total de $36,847.00 en asistencia
económica, 3,119 comidas, comida para 2,892, ropa para 261, mueblas para 25 familias y artículos para el hogar
para 72 familias. El recibir muebles usados pero bien cuidados, ropa y artículos para hogar en nuestra tienda nos

Our CCD year will commence on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
Classes are scheduled varied days during the week for one hour each
week.
Homework will be assigned. There will be no in-person gatherings—all
classes will be virtually.
Each teacher will have specific instructions for his / her class.
A schedule of classes will be included in the packet each student recei-
ves, along with prayers and any material pertinent to each class.
The week of May 23, 2021 will conclude the first semester of CCD.
We will resume in August 2021.

La Cuaresma es un período de seis semanas, que comienza el Miércoles de
Ceniza, y está destinado a ser un tiempo de arrepentimiento. Es una temporada
de preparación para conmemorar la muerte y resurrección de Jesús en la
Pascua. El propósito de la Cuaresma es reconocer plenamente nuestro
quebrantamiento como seres humanos y la necesidad de un Salvador. El período
de Cuaresma nos permite reflexionar y abrir nuestro corazón a Jesús. La
principal observación de la Cuaresma, el ayuno, se realiza para despejar las
distracciones y concentrarse en Cristo. Los otros dos aspectos de la Cuaresma
son la oración y la caridad. El acto de renunciar a algo y reemplazarlo con

• Beginning this week, we will re-open our Churches for public worship, with the
same detailed attention to safety and protocol, i.e. mask wearing from the time
you enter the front door of the Church until you leave the premises, hand sanitizing
upon entering the Church and before receiving Eucharist. The reception of Holy
Eucharist will remain at the end of Mass, outside, in the hand only.
• Daily, public Masses will be offered at St. Luke—Monday, Wednesday and Friday,
7 am; Immaculate Conception—Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 9 am, and St.
Bernard—Fridays of Lent, 8 am.
• Ash Wednesday Masses are public: St. Luke—7 am, 4 pm, English; St. Bernard—8
am, Spanish; and Immaculate Conception—9 am, 6 pm, Spanish. Ashes will be
distributed outside the Churches at St. Luke and Immaculate Conception—6 am—7
pm; and St. Bernard—9 am—4 pm. Our Deacons and Eucharistic Ministers will
impose ashes on the foreheads of our faithful in silence, and so also in silence, we
ask that you make room for the person next in line. Remember, face masks are
mandated.
• Our Lenten Stations of the Cross devotion will commence Friday, February 19 in
our three Churches—St. Bernard, 9am—Spanish; Immaculate Conception, 4 pm—
Spanish, live streamed; and St. Luke, 5 pm—English, live streamed. This devotion
is open to the public (in-person).
• Our priests will conduct “Wednesdays of Lent for Healing,” a private, live streamed
hour of prayer.
• Fr. Jojo welcomes students back for Religious Education at the Ash Wednesday
Masses. Classes officially begin the week of February 21. Scheduled days and
times are located on the Religious Education page in the bulletin.
• The 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal, “Persevering in Hope,” continues. Won’t you
prayerfully discern your participation in this year’s campaign. Envelopes are
located at the entrances of our Churches for which to place your donations. You
may pledge / gift, text ACA to 41444, or use your credit card and electronic transfer

A partir de esta semana, volveremos a abrir nuestras iglesias para el culto público, con la misma
atención detallada a la seguridad y el protocolo, es decir, el uso de cubre bocas desde el
momento en que ingresa por la puerta principal de la Iglesia hasta que abandona las
instalaciones, desinfectando las manos al entrar a la Iglesia y antes de recibir la Eucaristía. La
recepción de la Sagrada Eucaristía permanecerá al final de la Misa, afuera, solmente en la
mano.
Se ofrecerán Misas públicas diarias en San Lucas — lunes, miércoles y viernes a las 7 am; en
Inmaculada Concepción — martes, jueves y sábado, a las 9 am, y en San Bernardo — viernes
de Cuaresma, a las 8 am.
Las Misas del Miércoles de Ceniza son públicas: San Lucas — 7 am, 4 pm, inglés; San Bernardo:
8 am, español; e Inmaculada Concepción: 9 am, y 6 pm, español. Las cenizas se distribuirán
afuera de las Iglesias de San Lucas e Inmaculada Concepción, de 6 am a 7 pm; y en San
Bernardo: de 9 am a 4 pm. Nuestros Diáconos y Ministros Eucarísticos impondrán cenizas en la
frente de nuestros fieles en silencio, y así también en silencio, les pedimos que dejen el espacio
para la siguiente persona en la fila. Recuerde, los cubre bocas son obligatorios.
Nuestra devoción del Víacrucis de Cuaresma comenzará el viernes 19 de febrero en nuestras
tres iglesias: St. Bernard, 9 am: español; Inmaculada Concepción, 5 pm — español,
transmisión en vivo; y San Lucas, 5 pm — Inglés, transmisión en vivo. Esta devoción esta
abierta a nuestros fieles (publico/en presencia).
Nuestros sacerdotes dedicaran los “Miércoles de Cuaresma para la sanación”, una hora de
oración privada transmitida en vivo.
Padre Jojo da la bienvenida a los estudiantes que regresan a la Educación Religiosa en las
Misas del Miércoles de Ceniza. Las clases comienzan oficialmente la semana del 21 de
febrero. Los días y horarios programados se encuentran en la página de Educación Religiosa

Continúa la Campaña Católica Anual de 2021, “Perseverando en la esperanza”. ¿Podrá usted
