THEOPHANIES
Today’s readings recount three theophanies, or par cular manifesta-
ons of God’s presence. The prophet Isaiah is caught up in a drama c scene of
heavenly worship, with a royal throne, burning embers, and seraphim singing,
“Holy, holy, holy.” Isaiah is overwhelmed. In the responsorial psalm, the
assembly adds its own worship to that of the seraphim: “In the sight of the
angels, I will sing your praises, Lord” (Psalm 138:1).
Paul reminds the Corinthians of his own experience of a post-
Resurrec on appearance of the Lord, making him an apostle, but one “born
abnormally” (1 Corinthians 15:8), since he had no acquaintance with the
earthly Jesus. The first of those who did know the earthly Jesus were surprised
by fishing advice from the teacher who had commandeered Simon’s boat,
resul ng in an extraordinary catch. Although less colorful than those of Isaiah
or Paul, this theophany was just as overwhelming.

Las lecturas de hoy relatan tres teofanías, o manifestaciones de la presencia de Dios. El profeta Isaías se
ve atrapado en una escena dramá ca de adoración celes al, con un trono real, brasas ardientes y serafines
que cantan, “Santo, santo, santo”. Isaías está sobrecogido. En el salmo responsorial, la asamblea añade su
propia adoración a la de los serafines: “A la vista de los ángeles, cantaré tus alabanzas, Señor” (Salmo
138:1).
Pablo recuerda a los corin os su propia experiencia de una aparición del Señor después de la
resurrección, lo que lo hace un apóstol, pero “nacido de forma poco común” (1 corin os 15:8), ya que no
conoció a Jesús de carne y hueso. Los primeros que sí conocieron a Jesús de carne y hueso se
sorprendieron por los consejos de cómo pescar que les dio el maestro que había solicitado subir a la barca
de Simón, y como consecuencia obtuvieron una pesca extraordinaria. Aunque menos pintoresca que la de
Isaías o Pablo, esta teofanía fue igual de extraordinaria.

Join us for Discernment Thursday, February 10, 2022 – 6:30 P.M.
NATURE
The Pastoral Council is a dis nct group. It is consulta ve to the pastor. It is to be a representa ve body of the faithful,
whose focus is on the whole community. The Council is to provide a means for uni ng the parish community. It shall
have the ability to listen and communicate well with knowledge of God, self, pastor, church and community.
PURPOSE
The Council will respond to the call and ques ons of the pastor and offer the best consulta on possible. All Council
recommenda ons will be developed through the process of consensus.
PASTORAL COUNCIL MEMBERS MUST:·
• Be registered in the parish
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Have demonstrated a commitment to the parish community
• Be in full communion with the Catholic Church
• Be commi ed to spiritual growth
• Be willing to commit the necessary me and energy to offer effec ve consulta on to the Pastor
Selec on Process
Nomina on Forms will be available at all masses January 30 and February 6. You will have an opportunity to
nominate yourself and/or other parishioners to serve on the Pastoral Council. Those nominated will be contacted and
invited to come to the selec on process (Discernment).

3. The Liturgy of the Eucharist in union with Mary
Our Blessed Lord did not begin his work of redemp on without the consent
of Mary, solemnly asked and freely given. Likewise, he did not complete it on
Calvary without her presence and her consent. “From this union of sufferings
and of will between Mary and Christ, she merited to become most worthily
the restorer of the lost world and the dispenser of all the graces Jesus pur-
chased by his death and by his Blood.” (AD 12) She stood by the cross of Jesus on Calvary, represen ng all
mankind there, and at each new Mass the offering of the Saviour is accomplished subject to the same con-
di ons. Mary stands at the altar no less than she stood by the cross. She is there, as ever, co-opera ng
with Jesus — the Woman, foretold from the beginning, crushing the serpent’s head. A loving a en on to
her ought, therefore, to form part of every Mass rightly heard.
The piety of the Chris an people has always very rightly sensed a profound link between devo on to the
Blessed Virgin and worship of the Eucharist: this is a fact that can be seen in the liturgy of both the West
and the East, in the tradi ons of the Religious Families, in the modern movements of spirituality, including
those for youth, and in the pastoral prac ce of the Marian Shrines. Mary guides the faithful to the Eucha-
rist.” (RMat 44).

Nuestro Señor Jesucristo no empezó su tarea de redención sin el consen miento de María, solemnemente requerida
y libremente otorgada. Del mismo modo que no la finalizó en el Calvario sin su presencia y consen miento. "De esta
unión de sufrimientos y complacencia entre María y Cristo, Ella se convir ó en la principal restauradora del mundo
perdido y dispensadora de todas las gracias que Dios obtuvo por su muerte y con su sangre" (AD, 9). Permaneció al
pie de la Cruz en el Calvario, representando a toda la humanidad, y en cada misa la ofrenda del Salvador se cumple
bajo las mismas condiciones. María permanece en el altar en la misma forma en que permaneció junto a la Cruz. Es-
tá allí, como lo estuvo siempre, cooperando con Jesús como la Mujer anunciada desde el principio, aplastando la
cabeza de la serpiente. Por lo tanto, en cada misa oída con verdadera devoción, la atención amorosa a la Virgen ha
de formar parte de la misma.
«La maternidad se conoce y se experimenta por parte del pueblo cris ano en el Banquete Sagrado -la celebración
litúrgica del misterio de la Redención-, en el que se hace presente Cristo, su verdadero cuerpo nacido de la Virgen
María. La piedad del pueblo cris ano ha tenido siempre el profundo sen do de un lazo entre devoción a la San sima
Virgen y el culto a la Eucaris a; éste es un hecho que puede verse en la liturgia, tanto de los pueblos de Oriente co-
mo los de Occidente, en las tradiciones de las familias religiosas, en los movimientos modernos de espiritualidad,
incluyendo los de la juventud, y en la prác ca pastoral de los santuarios marianos. María conduce a los fieles a la
