Did You Know--The body systems responsible for balance can be affected by gradual changes due to aging or

After Lenten fasting, praying and almsgiving, we find ourselves at Easter and the
mystery of the empty tomb. Mary Magdalene in today’s gospel from John is the
first to discover the empty tomb. She does not understand what has happened
and runs back to Peter with the assumption that someone had stolen the body of
Jesus.
Peter and the beloved disciple who remains unnamed in the gospel run to see for
themselves. The beloved disciple gets there first, sees the cloths but does not enter
the tomb. When Peter arrives, he enters the empty tomb and sees the burial cloths,
but, like Mary, does not seem to comprehend the reality of the empty tomb. The
beloved disciple goes inside the empty tomb, sees and believes.
The mystery of the Resurrection confronts us today as it did the disciples of
Jesus on that first Easter morning. What does Resurrection mean to us today
as we renew our baptismal promises, recommitting ourselves to follow and be
transformed by Jesus? Do we really believe that death is not the end and that new
life, new meaning and eternal life are our true destiny? If we find this challenging,
then we are not alone. The early followers of Jesus also “did not yet understand the Scripture that he had

Despite the challenge of fully comprehending the mystery that is Resurrection, Responsorial Psalm 118 calls us to
sing with joy for “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.” The other two readings,
the first from the Acts of the Apostles and the second from the letter to the Colossians, boldly proclaim
the good news of the Resurrection, inviting us to “see and believe.”
Today, it is appropriate to ask ourselves if we have come to “see and believe” as the beloved disciple did. If so,
then do we live our lives as if we understand and believe the marvelous, mysterious reality that is the
Resurrection? Every Sunday is referred to as a “little Easter,” for we celebrate the passion, death and
resurrection of Jesus.
Every time we celebrate Eucharist, we affirm our belief in the Easter paschal mystery, the reality that God
can and does bring about new life and meaning from all the death and tomb experiences of our lives.
God’s raising of Jesus to new life is God’s promise to us that in dying with Jesus, we too will rise with him to
eternal life.
The Resurrection concretizes our hope that all the negative experiences of life can be brought to God, the
God of life and not death. God will indeed transform them and us into a new life, new beings, and new
creations. Do we really believe this?
Today, this Easter day, ask yourself what signs of resurrected life you have noticed in your encounters
with life, nature, God and others? Where have you experienced “empty tombs” in your faith journey? When
and where have you experienced new, unexpected and transformed life?
When have death, misery, disappointment, and the negativity of life been
transformed for you into new life, joy, enduring hope and a zest for life?
Who has helped you come out of the various dark tombs of everyday
life into the bright new light of a sun-filled day? Sunday, April 4

Today we proclaim that Jesus is risen among us. Our task as disciples is Psalm: Psalm 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-23 (24)

misterio del sepulcro vacío. En el evangelio de hoy según San Juan, María Magdalena es la
primera en descubrir el sepulcro vacío. Ella no entiende lo que sucedió y vuelve
corriendo a Pedro con la suposición de que alguien había robado el cuerpo de Jesús.
Pedro y el discípulo amado quien permanece sin nombre en el Evangelio corren para ver
por sí mismos. El discípulo amado llega primero, ve las telas pero no entra al sepulcro.
Cuando llega Pedro, entra al sepulcro vacío y ve las telas funerarias, pero, como María, no
