                                                    Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska on
                                                       surrendering to Jesus’ Will.
“And so You see, Jesus, that everything is now up to
You. I am perfectly at peace, despite these great
urgings. For my part, I have done everything, and it
is now Your turn, my Jesus, and in this way Your
cause will be made apparent. I am totally in accord
with Your will; do with me as You please, O Lord, but
only grant me the grace of loving You more and more
ardently. This is what is most precious to me. I desire nothing but You, O love Eternal! It matters
not along what paths You will lead me, paths of pain or paths of joy. I want to love You at every mo-
ment of my life. If You tell me to leave, O Jesus, in order to carry our Your will, I will leave. If you
tell me to stay, I will stay. It matters not what I will suffer, in the one instance or the other. O my Je-
sus, if I leave, I know what I shall have to suffer and endure. I agreed to this with full awareness,
and I have already accepted it by an act of the will. It does not matter what the chalice holds for me.
It is enough for me to know that it has been given to me by the loving hand of God. If you tell me to
turn back and stay, I will stay in spite of all the interior urgings. If You still keep them in my soul and
leave me in this inner agony even to the end of my life, I accept this in the full consciousness of my
will and in loving submission to You, O my God. If I stay, I shall hide myself in Your mercy, my
God, so deeply that no human eye will see me. Throughout my life, I want to be a thurible filled with
hidden fire, and may the smoke rising up to You, O Living Host, be pleasing to You. I feel in my own
heart that every little sacrifice arouses the fire of my love for You, but in such a silent and secret way
that no one will detect it.”

Si me
humano me verá.

St. Mark
                                  the Evangelist
                                     (Feast day April 25th)

We learn from the Epistle to the Colossians that Mark was a kinsman of
Barnabas, who was a Levite, which presupposes that Mark was also of a
Levitical family.
We read of Mark accompanying Paul and Barnabas on their apostolic
missions, assisting them in Cyprus (Acts 13:5) and journeying with them to
Perga in Pamphylia, from whence he returned on his own to Jerusalem (Acts
13:13).
The Apostle to the Gentiles seems to have construed this last action on
Mark's part as displaying a certain disloyalty.
Later, when preparing to visit Cilicia and Asia Minor, a heated argument
ensued with Paul refusing to include Mark, while Barnabas defended his cousin,
"so that they separated from each other; Barnabas took Mark with him and
sailed away to Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas and departed" (Acts 15, 37-40).
It is this same Mark who is later imprisoned with Paul in Rome. As proof of
how much his personal opinion concerning Mark had changed during their joint
captivity, the Apostle to the Gentiles afterwards writes to Timothy in Ephesus,
“…take Mark and bring him with thee, for he is profitable to me in the ministry.”
Tradition strongly affirms that Mark, the author of the second gospel, was
more closely associated with St. Peter. Clement of Alexandria, Irenaeus and
Papias speak of Mark as being Peter's interpreter. Writing from Rome, Peter
refers to “my son, Mark” (1 Peter 5, 13) who apparently was there with him.
This is undoubtedly Mark the Evangelist.
Ancient tradition relates that Mark lived for some years in Alexandria as
bishop of that city, and there suffered martyrdom.
The city of Venice claims to possess the remains of St. Mark the
Evangelist, brought there from Alexandria in the ninth century.
Preserved by the Venetians for centuries, their authenticity has not gone
unchallenged. From time immemorial, however, St. Mark – Apostle and
Evangelist – symbolized by the lion, has always been honored as patron of this

San Marcos

regresó solo a Jerusalén (Hechos 13:13).

Joseph Ratzinger was born on 16 April 1927 in Marktl am Inn, Germany.
His father, a police officer, came from a traditional family of farmers from Lower
Bavaria. He spent his adolescent years in Traunstein, a small town on the Austrian border.
It was in this context, which Pope Benedict XVI himself has described as
"Mozartian", that he received his Christian, human and cultural formation.
                                    Second World War
Joseph's days of youth were far from easy.
His faith and family upbringing prepared him for the harsh experience of the prob-
lems connected with the Nazi regime; he even remembers seeing his parish priest being
beaten by Nazis before celebrating Holy Mass, and was well aware of the fiercely hostile
atmosphere to the Catholic Church that existed in Germany at the time.
Towards the end of World War II, Joseph was enrolled in the auxiliary anti-aircraft
service.
                             Priest, professor, Vatican Council
From 1946 to 1951, he studied philosophy and theology at the University of Munich and at
the higher school in Freising. Together with his brother Georg, he was ordained a priest on
29 June 1951 in the Cathedral at Freising.
In 1953 Fr Ratzinger obtained a doctorate in theology with a thesis entitled: "The
People and House of God in St Augustine's doctrine of the Church".
Four years later, he qualified as a university professor. He then taught dogma and
fundamental theology at the higher school of philosophy and theology of Freising; then in
Bonn from 1959 to 1969; in Münster from 1963 to 1966; and in Tübingen from 1966 to 1969.
Beginning in 1969, he was a professor of dogmatic theology and of the history of
dogma at the University of Regensburg, where he eventually became Dean and Vice-
Rector.
From 1962 to 1965 he was present during all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as
a chief theological advisor to the Archbishop of Cologne, Cardinal Josef Frings.
                                  A "theological' vocation
Fr Ratzinger's important and useful experience as a priest and an "expert" at the
Second Vatican Council was immensely valuable and fundamental to his life. He lived out
this experience as confirmation of his own vocation, which he defined as "theological".
The rapid succession of his numerous, detailed publications has also continued as the years
have passed, serving as a reference point for Catholics and especially for those involved in
advanced theological studies.
                                                                                   continued...

        Sacerdote, profesor, Concilio Vaticano
                                                                                    continuado...

From the Diary of Saint Faustina
“This feast is not only a day for special worship of God in the
mystery of His mercy, but also a time of grace for all people. The Lord Jesus
said: I desire that the Feast of mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls,
and especially for poor sinners. Souls perish in spite of My bitter Passion.
I am giving them the last hope of salvation, that is, recourse to My Mercy.
If they will not adore My Mercy, they will perish for all eternity. The Feast
of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. On that day,
priests are to tell everyone about My great and unfathomable mercy.
The greatness of this feast is measured by extraordinary promises
that the Lord attached to it. Jesus said: … whoever approaches the Fount
of Life on this day will be granted complete remission of sins and punish-
ment, and also, On this day the very depths of My tender mercy are open.
I pour out a whole ocean of graces upone those souls who approach the
Fount of My Mercy. … Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though
its sins be as scarlet.
To receive this great gift of complete remission of sins and punish-
ment, we must first go to confession and receive God’s pardon for our sins
and offenses. Then, in a state of grace, on Divine Mercy Sunday, we can
receive the Lord Jesus present in Holy Communion. In this way, we fulfill
the Lord’s request: The soul that will go to confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete
forgiveness of sins and punishment. Receiving the Lord worthily is essential for obtaining the promised
grace, but our faith must show itself in our trust and in our acts of love: No soul will be justified until it turns
with confidence to My mercy.”

Si no adoran a Mi
