TWENTY SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME|SEPTEMBER 26, 2021 VIGÉSIMO SEXTO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO | 26 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 2021 PASTOR’S CORNER Sometimes you can identify a person by the sound of their voice, or by the words they choose. Jesus said his followers would be like that: “My sheep will recognize my voice.” Can you tell who this is by the words they’re using? “Come now, you rich, weep and wail over your impending miseries. Your wealth has rotted away, your clothes have become moth-eaten, your gold and silver have corroded, and that corrosion will be a testimony against you; it will devour your flesh like a fire.” Unfortunately, these are from the Word of God. The author is the Holy Spirit, together with the Apostle James. Most of us probably have a nicer voice for God in our head, and to hear his actual words can be disturbing. 2,000 years ago these words wouldn’t have applied to most people. But to live in the 21st century in America makes all of us members of a consumer society. We are the wealthiest and most decadent generation that has ever lived, which changes our relationship with how the Bible sounds. The Holy Spirit that writes 2,000 years ago knows what will destroy us and what can fulfill us. Since He made gold, He knows it’s nice, but He also knows we can behave like moths drawn to the flame. God knows if he can uproot our hearts in time, he can keep us from burning up with all our possessions. Are you willing to become comfortable with His voice, even if he burns away your possessions? Please keep the following people in your prayers this Pray For…Oremos por… week: For those suffering illnesses, infirmity, and those in need of our prayers. Recordemos en nuestras oraciones For the following souls of the recently departed, that de esta semana a todos aquellos que están enfermos, through the mercy of Christ, they may rest in peace… especialmente a: Oremos también por todos los fieles difuntos para que a través de la misericordia de Dios descansen en paz.... Nothing can do more to change the world, to bring about peace, to convert hearts, to make reparation for the many evils committed. Spending time in prayer may seem, on the outside, to be a passive thing; however, it is anything but! Our world is in desperate need of hope, of renewal, of a ‘turning back’ to the things of God. By visiting Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, we take up the best weapon for the battles of our age and contribute to the healing of our culture. Cultivating a Eucharistic life of adoration also bears tremendous fruit in our own hearts and lives. We cannot spend time in the rays of His Eucharistic Presence without receiving His grace, His love, His mercy, His peace.
