28th Sunday of Ordinary Time
"Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you,
there is no one who has given up
house or brothers or sisters or
mother or father or children or
lands for my sake and for the
sake of the gospel who will not
receive a hundred times more
now in this present age.”
Mark 10: 17-30PAGE 2 From the Pastors Desk + October 10, 2021 Dear Faith Family of Our Lady of Grace, For many, Chris anity has become a comfortable ins tu on. Parishioners and church members a end Mass regularly, build community with others in our geographical boundaries, and we might send our kids to the parish school. The basis of our salva on is not parish membership per say but how we go out to meet the needs of our neighbors-the poor, abandoned, neglected, abused, trafficked the ones who cry out for our a en on and love! With so much technology the world has become so interconnected that it is a global village. Our responsibility is to one another in a much broader spectrum. We are called to let go of any narrow vision we might have of “neighbor” and see Chris an figures before us both local and globally. As we look ahead to the month of October our parish is buzzing away with tons of ac vi es. There is plenty to commemorate this month you will no ce that the beau ful statue of Our Lady of Fa ma, will be in the sanctuary for the whole month. October is tradi onally the Month of the Holy Rosary. The Rosary is a Christ centered prayer se ng forth the en re life of Jesus, the passion, death, resurrec on and glory. Of course, it also honors and contemplates Mary too. In a sense when we pray the rosary and hold it in our hands it has been o en said that we mediate on the life of Jesus through the eyes of Mary. "Because of the mission she received from God, her life is most closely linked with the mysteries of Jesus Christ, and there is no one who has followed in the footsteps of the Incarnate Word more closely and with more merit than she"142 (Mediator Dei). Many blessings have also been given through the rosary so pick one up and pray it for peace in our world, na on, city, homes, and families. Lastly, the month of October is annually observed by the Catholic Church in the United States as Respect Life Month. In his first le er to the Corinthians, Saint Paul tells us, “As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ. …If [one] part suffers, all the parts suffer with it” (1 Cor 12:12,26). We are called and sent to be messengers of God’s love, trea ng one another as cherished and chosen by Him. In doing so, we help build a culture that respects all human life. The Body of Christ needs us! The world needs us! We are called to cherish, defend, and protect those who are most vulnerable, from the beginning of life to its end, and at every point in between. We are not only called to protect the unborn but every life who is threatened. Our Respect Life Ministry has stepped up to make sure that we have an opportunity to witness to this Gospel mandate by hos ng 40 Days for Life, an informa on table a er Masses with materials about prolife ini a ves and programs, and there are banners gree ng us in the pa o area. Pray for me as I remember you all always in my prayers and Masses . I wish you all a blessed week! In Jesus and Mary, -Fr. Marinello Saguin
