SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT| DECEMBER 5, 2021 SEGUNDO DOMINGO ADVIENTO|5 DE DECIEMBRE DEL 2021 PASTOR’S CORNER We light our second candle on the Advent wreath today. Jesus is getting closer; we can feel him approaching. John, his cousin, senses that in the Gospel. Having lived his whole life getting ready to get people ready, now he begins to proclaim a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. As we see this second candle burning, how do we get ready for Jesus? If it’s been a long time since we were baptized, can we renew our repentance today? Or like John the Baptist, who goes and finds people who can receive this new word, is there someone in our lives we can share new joy and hope with? When Jesus is born in a stable, the skies are filled with angels: they invite the shepherds to come see him. Whom can we invite to come spend time with Jesus? All of us have a friend or family member, neighbor or coworker who once knew confidence, but got discouraged. In these past months, they’ve gotten fatigued or isolated. Bring them to Jesus, so they can discover what God wants to bless them with today. We will light a candle: we can shine with a light that draws others to discover Jesus. Bring them back to the Lord who loves them. IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY MASSES DECEMBER 7TH, VIGIL MASS AT 6:00 P.M. SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT| DECEMBER 5, 2021 SEGUNDO DOMINGO ADVIENTO|5 DE DECIEMBRE DEL 2021 LOOKING FOR YOUNG SINGERS Remember December th We are looking for young singers from 5 Grade to High School age for the 6:00 pm 8th, “The Immaculate mass every other Saturday. If you are interested in using your gift of singing to Conception of Blessed praise the Lord at our Liturgy, please contact Virgin Mary” David Bradley at 530-635-0755 or bradleydab@comcast.net EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS God’s Personal Assistants If you have ever planned a large-scale event, whether it’s a musical performance or a religious conference, you may have dealt with someone’s personal assistant. Possibly this person would be a representative of the keynote speaker or the master of ceremonies for the local bishop; perhaps it’s even the staffer of a local politician or the lackey of a well-known musical act. Personal assistants are masters of stewardship — overseeing things in their boss’ absence. They prepare the way. This person’s job is to get everything ready for the person in charge, so that when he or she shows up — whoever he or she is — it’s smooth sailing for them to do whatever it is they need to do: sing, speak, pray, mingle, what-have-you. It’s usually a big job full of little things, a gig where attention to detail is key. God is the guest of honor in our life, the keynote speaker, the main event. And what He wants — what He needs — to do is to change our hearts. Constantly, over, and over, and over again. We are all His personal assistants in this endeavor. We need to prepare the way of the Lord, to make straight His paths. We need to make everything ready so that when He shows up — however He shows up, whether it’s in the form of a neighbor in need or a burning bush right in front of us — everything is ready for Him to do His job. — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS ©LPi Page | 7
